In this year's plan we have budgeted $18m for this and other infrastructure projects. It's the first time that the Cross Valley Link has had a formal budget line. These sorts of projects are only possible if you have debt under control.
It's a complex job getting a project like this off the ground as it involves multiple agencies - such as Wellington Regional Council and Transit NZ. Also, the project will require many resource consents, designations for the route and maybe some property acquisitions.
The Hutt News ran a column last week asking each mayoral candidate what they planned with this project. Everyone supported it, most loudly Ross Jamieson, but he makes no mention of it in his 5000 word web site. Strange.
